YoYo's Yogurt Cafe Toronto: A self-serve concept built to health code, delivered in 6 weeks.

Overview

How a family-run franchise used WeReno to navigate a first-time commercial fit-out with complex health department requirements.

YoYo's Yogurt Cafe was the owner's first commercial fit-out — a full self-serve frozen yogurt concept with specialty refrigeration, self-serve dispensing systems, and a health-department-compliant service area. The owner had no prior construction experience and needed complete visibility into what was happening at every stage.

The problem

A first-time owner navigating a commercial build with no construction background.

The owner was unfamiliar with construction sequencing and was receiving conflicting information from the GC and the equipment supplier about whether the refrigeration rough-in would be complete before the health department's pre-opening inspection. Without a clear picture of the build status, the franchise opening date was at risk.

"A fun, family-friendly cafe concept needs a space that works practically as well as it looks. Getting both right in a compact footprint requires real attention to detail."

The Solution

Owner-facing twin view with plain-language status for every zone.

WeReno built the twin with an owner-specific view that showed each zone in plain-language status — "Not started," "In progress," "Ready for inspection," "Complete." The owner could check the status of the refrigeration rough-in, the dispensing station, and the health department compliance checklist without needing to interpret a construction schedule. The GC updated the twin daily.

"WeReno understood the balance between great design and practical function. The equipment installation was coordinated perfectly with the interior work."

The result

Health department pre-inspection passed first try. Opened 3 days ahead of franchise target.

YoYo's passed its health department pre-opening inspection on the first attempt. The franchise opened 3 days ahead of the target date — with the owner holding a complete digital asset package for all refrigeration equipment, dispensing systems, and health department compliance records. The franchisor noted it as one of the smoothest unit openings in the brand's recent history.
