Shopping Plaza Winnipeg: A full plaza revitalization, delivered on a Prairie winter schedule.

Project photo

Overview

How a large-scale Winnipeg plaza transformation managed a compressed winter build window through live digital twin coordination.

The Winnipeg shopping plaza transformation involved facade replacement, full interior common area work, and HVAC system upgrades — all scheduled across a Manitoba winter with hard freeze dates that constrained exterior work windows. Multiple tenants remained operational throughout, with customer access maintained.

The problem

Weather windows and live tenant operations created a constantly shifting construction sequence.

Exterior concrete and facade work had a narrow window before freeze dates, while the interior HVAC work depended on exterior penetrations that hadn't been completed. The dependency chain was being managed through a static Gantt chart that hadn't been updated in two weeks, leaving the GC working from an outdated picture during the most critical phase.

"Renovating a multi-million dollar shopping plaza while keeping all tenants fully operational requires coordination at a scale most project managers have never attempted."

The Solution

Live sequencing model with weather-window constraints built in.

WeReno built the construction sequence into the twin with weather-dependent tasks flagged and their impact on the dependency chain visible in real time. When the freeze forecast moved earlier, the twin instantly showed which downstream tasks were at risk and what the re-sequence options were. The GC and owner made the call in a single model review session.

"WeReno delivered a comprehensive project dashboard and dedicated account management that gave us enterprise-level visibility across the entire scope."

The result

Exterior completed before freeze. Plaza opened on target. Zero tenant disruption incidents.

The exterior facade and concrete work was completed with two days to spare before the freeze date. The interior HVAC work proceeded on schedule through the winter months, and the plaza opened to the public on its target date. Tenant operations were maintained throughout with zero customer-access disruptions.
