Homes with an unfinished basement are a great find as they allow homeowners to expand their living space. Finding inspiration for the basement as well as understanding the needs of the space will help a homeowner envision what they would love to create in the basement.
Our client recently purchased a home without a completed basement and wanted to create a multi-purpose unit that would allow them to enjoy the space with friends and family, and double up as a guest suite for when the family visited from out of state.
Our client was seeking to expand their living space by adding the following to their basement:
- 2 full bathrooms
- 2 bedrooms with walk-in closets
- Laundry room
- An L shaped kitchen
- A wet bar
- Theatre area with surround sound and a fireplace
- A living space with a fireplace
WeReno walked through the unit and discussed the client’s vision and needs. WeReno recommended lights colors throughout the unit to brighten the space, as well as adding larger egress windows. These windows would comply with local code and bring in additional natural light. Various meetings were arranged with the client and our interior designer to truly capture the vision of the client. Throughout the construction process, the team walked the client through the space to help them grasp their space and build. In certain stages of walkthroughs, the client did have a change of mind on finish material and WeReno was able to adjust the plan and meet their needs promptly.
